of all the portraits that i could find on Google in the 8 seconds during which i looked for them, this is the one that for me most accurately captures Godard in the 21st century. digital, distant, and dissatisfied. his hair still defiantly wavy after all these years.
Godard’s Histoire(s) du Cinema hits DVD on tuesday, and it’s as close to a personal audience with this cranky genius as most of us are ever likely to enjoy.
the most cited director i know. and yes, cinema is everything mr godard.
